Trouble with password recovery?
Some of us are old enough to remember when there was no such thing as spam, and one could use a very simple password to get into a website. Those days are long gone, as are the days of maintaining ones own email server due to security policies. And unfortunately it’s only getting worse as many corporate email servers will block WordPress registration emails by default. While some types of announcements can be sent out via third party services like HubSpot which bring a host of different ways for your site to remain white-listed, some of the automated emails this site sends out about password resets and abstract submissions cannot use HubSpot without rewriting certain critical plugins.
So what to do if you’ve lost your password and no matter how many times you try, you never get sent a reset link?
- Look in your junk mail or spam folder. Depending on where you are, it may have gotten through, but not to your inbox.
- Email me (firstname.lastname@example.org) from the account you’re trying to recover. If you’re in there we’ll get you up and running. During daytime hours – I live on the East Coast – I tend to respond pretty quickly (sometimes within the minute when I hear a bunch of audible sign-in alerts). My provider, SiteGround has now tightened WordPress security so that you only get five login attempts until you’re locked out for the day. I can override that for you.
- Use a non-institutional email and register that account.
